Future is not a simple equation for Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams From This Is Wiltshire
HEAD coach Luke Williams believes his future at Swindon Town will be decided on more than a simple ‘stay or go’ scenario when he sits down for end of season discussions with chairman Lee Power.
There have been no crisis talks between Power and Williams in the wake of the 2 1 defeat at home to Scunthorpe United last weekend that confirmed Town’s relegation from League One, with the chairman instead preferring his coaching staff to concentrate on Sunday’s final game of the season away at Charlton Athletic.
The duo will meet to review the campaign following the match at the Valley, with Williams claiming he will enter the meeting with an open mind and is hopeful that Power does likewise.
Having been unable to prevent his side from dropping into League Two, it is inevitable that Williams’ future at the club will form the basis of the conversations, despite him only signing a five year deal as head coach a cheap jerseys little over a year ago.
Williams says that although he never considered standing down immediately, he cannot have clarity in his own mind about his position until he has held wide ranging discussions with the chairman on what is the best way forward for the club.
“It is impossible for me to walk away from something not knowing all the circumstances,” said Williams.
“I think there is probably more to the situation than just ‘we want you to stay’. We have to have an in depth conversation about many different factors before either of us can decide the way we want to go forward.
“Potentially the chairman will have an open mind and want to speak to me first before he makes a decision, I don’t know.
“I am going to go to the meeting with a completely open mind, and I am hoping my future will be very clear once that meeting is finished.”
With Town having just one fixture remaining following their relegation, Williams felt putting off the meeting until after the final weekend of the season was the best course of action instead of rushing to a snap judgement.
“Before I had a chance to think about anything, the chairman said that he would like to speak to me after the Charlton game and would like me to concentrate on doing my job correctly,” said Williams.
“Of course with this devastating blow, every man will suffer, and then once your mind drifts to where you are going to be or this and that, it is incredibly difficult to remain focussed on the task at hand.
“I think the chairman was correct in contacting me immediately to say concentrate on this game. It’s very important because many players are on show and, for want of a better word, on trial to show us what they are all about.
“He said: ‘Please concentrate on that and do your duty for the club which suited me perfectly and then we will discuss any future plans afterwards’.”

As LW had been in charge of an ill disciplined side on and off the pitch totally out of his depth and out smarted by all the managers in L1 in tactical nous which is why we’ve lost 24 games and 25 tomorrow.
